Why Hire A Professional To Film Your Wedding Video?

The major downside to the wedding video industry is that we are often the last thing to be added to the wedding planning, and the first to be eliminated when Brides are facing budgeting concerns over their upcoming wedding. We are often given less thought than the colour of the napkins or chair covers!

What couples fail to realize, until it's too late, is that there are only really three things after the wedding that the couple will have to remember the day. The rings, the photos, and the wedding movie. Long after the decorations have been thrown out, and all the flowers have died, what will have you from the happiest day in your life?

Wedding photos are nice, but they cannot possibly capture the true emotion of the wedding day like a wedding video. Nothing but a wedding video will allow you to hear the vows or capture the tears and the cracking voices during the ceremony. Often times the grandparents pass away a few years after the wedding, and the couple realizes it's the only video of their loved ones they have a video recording of. A wedding video is much more than a 'video of the day' but captures a a moment in time of the family.

A common line we hear is 'My Uncle Bob has a video camera, he can just film it for free.' What bothers us about that is we know you are never going to watch 'Uncle Bob's video' more than a few times. With over ten years of combined wedding videography experience, we have been subjected to a lot of situations at weddings that we are able to quickly react to. With wireless communication between our video crew, we are able to ensure we have all angles covered, and are able to capture the entire celebration throughout the whole day. What about the reception? 'Uncle Bob' is going to be seeing alot of his family members at the wedding he hasn't seen in years, and he's going to want to have a few drinks with them. Who's filming the couple when all this is going on??

I'm not only speaking as a wedding videographer, but as a husband with no wedding video. Long before I moved to London Ontario and got into wedding video production, professional wedding videos were 'not in our budget'. We hired a photographer, and got 'Aunt Jane' to film our wedding with her video camera, seeing as her daughter was to be our Flower Girl. There was more footage of the Flower Girl during the ceremony than us, and during the reception, the video camera was placed on the Aunt's table aimed at the head table...not knowingly bumped during the speeches so it was aiming towards an empty wall! You friends and family are guests at your wedding, not a professional crew!

Below is a clip I found on Youtube, this couple is not related to our business in any way, but they are speaking about their regret after not hiring a professional wedding videographer for their wedding. And as someone in the same situation, I agree 100%, and think about my lack of a wedding video every time I am creating a wedding video for someone else.
